Project overview

A 150,000 sq ft HQ, upgraded without replacement.

A major multinational energy provider partnered with EGG Lighting to modernise the lighting across its 150,000 sq ft Aberdeen headquarters.

Instead of replacing more than 2,000 existing luminaires, EGG remanufactured and upgraded the original fittings using high-efficiency LED technology, advanced DALI-2 controls, automated emergency lighting testing, and intelligent monitoring systems.

The project demonstrates how organisations can dramatically reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and extend asset lifespan whilst supporting circular economy principles.

Key results

Measured outcomes across energy, cost, carbon and workplace.

Energy Savings

44%

Reduced annual lighting energy consumption by more than 200,000 kWh through the upgrade from fluorescent to LED technology.

Financial Return

£207,423

Projected net benefit over seven years with an approximate five-year payback period.

Carbon Reduction

449 tCO₂e

149 tCO₂e embodied carbon savings plus 300 tCO₂e operational carbon savings.

Workplace Performance

Up to 118%

Measured improvements in lighting levels across key spaces while reducing energy use.

Why this project matters

Beyond energy savings.

Most lighting upgrades focus solely on reducing electricity consumption. This project demonstrates the wider benefits of remanufacturing:

  • Lower embodied carbon than full replacement
  • Reuse of existing lighting assets
  • Future-proof DALI-2 infrastructure
  • Automated emergency lighting compliance reporting
  • Intelligent monitoring and diagnostics
  • Replaceable LED modules and drivers
  • Reduced waste and circular economy benefits

Featured insight

The same housing. Entirely new technology.

Rather than sending 2,116 luminaires to landfill and purchasing new replacements, EGG Lighting retained the original housings and transformed them with new LED modules, Tridonic DALI-2 drivers, advanced optics, Bluetooth connectivity, and automated emergency monitoring.

The housing didn't change. Everything inside it did.
