An inside look at the people shaping our work at EGG Lighting. Here, we chat with Adil Rahman, an AI assisted developer. Among many tasks, Adil operates at the forefront of EGG Lighting’s work on Digital Product Passports, or DPP.
Meet the Team – Adil Rahman, AI Assisted Developer
Let’s start simple: what’s your role at EGG, and how long have you been part of the team?
Hi, I’m Adil Rahman, and I work as an AI assisted developer here at EGG Lighting. I joined the team in April 2025, and my focus is building AI-driven software, intelligent systems, and robust data services that manage the entire lifecycle of lighting products.
My role brings together technology, data, and sustainability—using the latest in AI to streamline our workflows and drive innovation in how EGG tracks, tests, and extends the life of luminaires.
Can you tell us about a project you’re working on?
One of the most exciting projects for me has been developing the backend for our DPP system. This system uses data and automation to trace every luminaire, from its original manufacture to every service, remanufacture, or reuse. It guarantees compliance, full transparency, and traceability at every step.
Note: The Digital Product Passport is a component of the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (2024), designed to improve product circularity and transparency across value chains. According to Deloitte, DPPs will be mandatory for many product categories by 2027–2028, offering both compliance benefits and new commercial opportunities—such as improved consumer trust and lifecycle management insights.

Is there anything you particularly like about the project?
It’s rewarding because it’s not just about technology for technology’s sake, the DPP directly supports EGG’s mission to create sustainable lighting and gives our clients confidence in quality.
But honestly, the proudest moment for me as a developer is seeing software I built go live in the real world—like our engineer testing the platform. It makes it easy for field teams to test and document luminaires to the latest standards.
Knowing that my work helps bridge the gap between digital tools and hands-on engineering is incredibly satisfying.
What’s a challenge in your role that you’ve come to really enjoy tackling?
A big challenge is translating complex compliance standards and testing protocols into easy-to-use digital workflows. Regulations and standards are always evolving, so I get to constantly learn and adapt.
Along with this would be restructuring the database to follow DPP adoption.
What’s one thing people might not realise about what you do?
Most people don’t see that a lot of our work is about making data visible and actionable, taking thousands of test results, service events, and compliance records, and turning them into something simple and clear.
It’s not just coding—it’s problem-solving, collaborating with field teams, and thinking about user experience.
What do you like to do when you’re off the clock?
Outside work, I’m a big fan of travelling and exploring different cultures and food. I also love experimenting with new AI tools and tech, even in my free time. I think having creative or active outlets helps me bring fresh ideas and energy to my projects at EGG.
What’s a simple tip or fact you wish more people knew about lighting, sustainability or your specific role?
People often don’t realise that remanufacturing and reusing lighting isn’t just about saving money—it’s about massively reducing carbon footprint and waste. A single remanufactured luminaire can avoid more than 50% of the embodied carbon of a new product.
With AI, we’re not just storing data; we’re turning it into insights that help technicians in the field, and help EGG close the loop on circular lighting.
That’s what gets me excited about working at EGG.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t run behind success: run behind knowledge, and success will follow.
If you had to swap jobs with someone at EGG for a day, who would it be and why?
One of the Reman engineers, to get my hands dirty with some of the fancy machines down there, especially the 3D printer.
Thanks Adil, and hopefully that provides you with insight into what an AI assisted developer does at EGG Lighting. Stay tuned for more from our team, and feel free to contact us to discuss your lighting requirements.
